Conditional Connection is a modular light sculpture shaped like a branching, tree-like entity that will welcome people from all walks of life to interact and explore without instruction.

Constructed entirely from translucent polyethylene tubing and zip ties, the piece draws from both engineered infrastructure and organic growth. Three primary branches emerge from a central trunk, each built from identical quantities of material but uniquely shaped and assigned to red, green, or blue—creating distinct visual identities within a shared system and inviting open, diverse engagement.

Proximity sensors activate individually addressable LEDs embedded throughout each branch, generating responsive lighting behaviors that evolve with each interaction. Designed for public installation, the work blends playful participation with a deeper reflection on how connection—like structure—can be conditional, synthetic, and fleeting.
